Make Money By Being an Affiliate
Money can be one of the most difficult things to come by, and sometimes it can seem like it’s harder to earn money than to spend it. However, with some savvy business know-how and a little bit of effort, you can make money by being an affiliate and earn extra money without even working any more hours in your day job! Read on to learn how.
Step 1 – Find a Good Product to Promote
There are literally thousands of products and programs you can promote as an affiliate. The process of finding a good product is similar to that of finding a niche in which to create a website: You simply look for one which offers good sales potential, has a high number of affiliates already promoting it, and has passionate customers who are eager to buy. For example, Amazon has over 200k books/cds/dvds available to its affiliates; if your goal is $100/day from Amazon, then .02% (2 out of 10000) might be within reach. If not, look around at other products – there’s almost always something you can sell! However, we recommend against promoting just anything. Make sure you do some research on your chosen product first. Look up reviews on it and try to figure out why people would want to buy it. Is it useful? Does it solve a problem? Would people pay money for such a thing? Are there competing products on the market? How does yours compare? Is yours better or worse than theirs? What makes yours worth buying instead of theirs? These questions will help you decide whether or not what you have chosen is really worth selling. Also, try searching for information about how much money similar products have made in their first year online.
Step 2 – Set Up Your Site
Before you can make money as an affiliate, you have to have a website that you can promote products through. I’m not going to walk you through setting up your website, but there are plenty of resources that can show you how to do it. GoDaddy offers inexpensive hosting, or if you’re really tech savvy, then maybe Godaddy hosting review is something for your eyes only. Setting up your site may take a bit of time and may be out of your skill set, so don’t hesitate to pay someone to help get it set up if need be. Step 3 – Choose Your Products: There are two ways to make money with affiliate marketing: promoting other people’s products or promoting your own. If you decide to go with selling other people’s stuff, check out Amazon Associates first because they offer a lot of programs and they will give you great advice on what will work best for your audience. If you want to sell your own product(s), then check out my step-by-step guide on how to start an online business from scratch here . It goes over everything in detail!
Step 3 – Build a List
It is much easier to make money online if you already have a large base of people who trust you and want to buy your product. Once your list is established, it doesn’t take much effort on your part to make money from that point forward. One method for building an email list involves setting up a lead magnet such as a free PDF guide on How To Start a Business and then asking potential customers to sign up for updates when you publish future guides in related categories. (You can read more about lead magnets in our previous step.) Building an opt-in email list is easy using tools like Aweber or MailChimp and there are dozens of books available offering advice on how to grow your email list quickly. Step 4 – Earn Money: Now that you have built a subscriber list, you can use their email addresses to market products and services directly to them. You can sell products through ClickBank or Amazon Associates as well as offer paid services through Fiverr or Freelancer. If done correctly, each one of these methods will allow you to earn hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars per month without doing any additional work at all after your initial setup. If that sounds too good to be true, keep reading because we'll cover some common questions regarding making money with affiliate marketing below!
Step 4 – Drive Traffic to Your Site
Let’s say you have a website that’s ranking well in Google. Your organic traffic is high and growing every day—it’s what keeps your business alive and running. You know that by creating high-quality content, you can make money through SEO. What happens if Google changes its algorithm? How will you adapt? No matter how good you are at SEO, it won’t do any good if your audience isn’t able to find your site. That’s why it’s important to have a secondary source of traffic: one that doesn’t rely on search engines or social media platforms. This source of traffic is called passive traffic, because you don't need to actively promote it; instead, you simply allow it to flow naturally from your site as visitors share your content with their friends and followers. To learn more about passive traffic sources, read our guide on driving passive traffic .
Step 5 – Getting Paid
You’ve written your content and you’re ready to earn some money. It can be a bit intimidating to think about actually asking for money, but it’s not as bad as you might think. The easiest way to make sure you can profit from your new site is by selling ads directly on your site. Sites like Mediavine offer great ad-management tools that take care of all ad sales for you – just let them know what kind of ads fit best with your audience and they’ll do everything else! Another option that’s often overlooked is getting paid directly from affiliate programs. Every company has different terms and conditions, so read through each one carefully before signing up. Many times companies will pay higher commissions if you have a significant amount of traffic coming to your site. Make sure to read over these carefully before signing up with any program. If possible, try starting out with both options (selling ads and being an affiliate) in order to get more traffic flowing into your website!
