| Don't Quit Your Day Job: 5 Affiliate Marketing Strategies to Make Extra Money in 2022 |
With the rise of the internet, more and more people are looking to make money online, but not everyone has the time or skill to develop their own product and sell it on Amazon or elsewhere on the web. That’s where affiliate marketing comes in. Affiliate marketers don’t develop products and sell them themselves; they promote other people’s products and get paid when they drive sales to their website. In some cases, you can even get free products to sell when you do affiliate marketing!
The Basics
Here are five strategies that will help you make extra money with affiliate marketing, even if you have a full-time job. No special skills or training is required, just smart ideas that let you use your regular job as leverage for making more money. Even better, these strategies can supplement your current income—or completely replace it—and leave you with more time and energy for other pursuits like parenting, sports or reading. Here’s what to do... 1. Keep track of your business expenses: Some companies offer employees reimbursement for travel expenses related to business meetings and conferences. But, not all companies do so, which means some out-of-pocket costs could be tax deductible when itemized on Schedule A of Form 1040 (for personal taxes). Before you buy any work supplies or equipment related to affiliate marketing, keep track of how much they cost and where they were purchased. Then, at tax time, you can claim them as deductions. 2. Investigate potential side gigs: If you want to earn extra money from affiliate marketing but don’t know where to start, investigate potential side gigs that might interest you. For example, if you already have experience doing graphic design or social media management then those skills might come in handy for affiliate marketers who need assistance with design projects or managing their social media accounts. 3. Look into Amazon Associates: The Amazon Associates program allows bloggers and website owners to earn commissions by linking their site to Amazon products and services (like Audible audiobooks). 4.
Make People Laugh
It's no secret that making people laugh will help you attract attention and grow your subscriber list. Share stories that make people want to share them with others—stories they can't wait to talk about. Some of my favorite comedy sites are College Humor, Cracked, SMOSH, 9GAG and The Oatmeal. You don’t have to be a master humorist to see success with affiliate marketing (but it certainly doesn’t hurt). Humor is one of those things that everyone is susceptible too. Most everyone likes a good joke or funny video—even grandma can get in on an LOL now and then! Remember that some people might be more inclined than others; think about your own family, who has a sense of humor more similar or different from yours?
Build your own website
The internet has forever changed how people earn extra money. Traditionally, sites like Craigslist and eBay were a great way for people to make a little money selling stuff they didn’t need or finding deals on used goods. But today, there are much more lucrative online sales strategies that don’t require you to physically list an item on Craigslist or eBay at all—and only take up a small portion of your time each week. The best of these is affiliate marketing, and if you can find one strategy that clicks with you (or find out what else works by testing different ideas), it’s easy enough to transform your spare room into an office set-up and start making some serious money online. Sell Online Courses
One of my favorite money-making strategies (because it’s a fun way to make money that doesn’t feel like work) is creating your own online course and selling it on sites like Skillshare or Teachable. You can do what I did with my foodie e-course, The Art of Food Photography, or create a course around your expertise that teaches people something new. Or if you’re really crafty, create a course teaching people how to make their own DIY products—that's what I did with my course, Crafting as a Business! If you've got some creative energy to spare, marketing yourself as an online instructor will definitely help make extra money in 2022. And depending on your subject matter, you could even be eligible for free advertising through affiliate links! Plus, most courses have student materials available for download once they purchase—so you can make money long after getting paid. It’s definitely not a quick buck though... building up a following takes time and effort. But if you put in enough hours upfront, it can pay off big time down the road when you start seeing those sweet monthly checks roll in from your students.
Create a Product
Launching a product can be one of the best ways to earn money through affiliate marketing. Here’s how it works. You create or curate a piece of content that has value for your target audience and then you promote it through any of your online properties (blog, podcast, website, social media accounts, etc.). For example, if you have an email list with 100,000 subscribers and write a post about why dogs make great pets for families with children—then you can quickly drive over 12K visitors from your readership to The Petco website using an affiliate link. And once they get there, they will need pet supplies. So by placing an affiliate link on your site, you will get paid every time someone buys pet supplies at Petco after clicking on your affiliate link. Not bad! There are other techniques as well such as selling ad space on your site or creating a lead magnet to attract new customers who want more information about products and services before buying them. If you do enough of these things simultaneously, which is called scaling up in affiliate marketing terms – then you should be able to quit your day job and focus solely on making money online without worrying too much about losing out on other opportunities.
